Using Quotes from Authority To Persuade

When you want to persuade someone, you can use quotes from an authority figure to override a person’s point of view. The fact that someone outside of the conversation that they admire and respect will act as fuel for your argument. If I say you should buy this book, it’s not so persuasive, but if I say Tony Robbins highly recommends this book influence magic can happen. Another example, “I know how much you like Ron Paul. Well, he said…”

Hey Bill, I recently have become quite interested in the art of persuasion and happened to find my way to this blog. I’ve really been enjoying what you have have to offer - thank you.
But it’s so true what you say about quotes. I’ve been closely involved with a Fourth Way Work center for nearly three years now, and in a round-about way, breaking hypnosis is really the center of study, but I’ve been finding also that these people, in their own way, are also very suggestible!
For example, I may be trying to make a point in conversation about what needs to be done next in a process. They say “A”, I say “B”, there’s some contention, and I follow with a quote by the ’school guru,’ Gurdjieff himself … one of my favorites is, “Sleeping man sees the world upside down.”
It’s amazing to me how often just quoting something from the ‘work books’ tips the scales in any moment, granted it’s not just some random quote, but something pertinent to achieving not only my aim, but the consensus aim as well.
I would suppose that goes for any circle. Just find their ‘holy books,’ and learn the scripture.

You are very very welcome Night Majic, I aim to please. This blog is my first time sharing what I have learned about persuasion so I appreciate all positiev and negative.
Congratulations on your learning and experiencing of these skills. yes quotes are very powerful. Very good insight on your part because in teh article I was talking specifically about quotes from authority figures, but you took it to the next level using proverb-like quotes, which are also EXTREAMLY powerful, becaus ethey are so old and they transcend cultures people just accept them as true.
This is also the case with using stories and myths as metaphors in persuasion.
i am working on an article about using stories to persuade, a lot can be said about it, so keep an eye out for it, I think you will really enjoy it.
